It’s no secret that construction sites can be noisy. It’s something most of us have just learned to expect and tolerate. But all that looks set to change. In this episode of Shaping Sustainable Places podcast, find out how electric construction machines are leading a quiet revolution. We visit our fossil fuel-free site at the Meatpacking District in Stockholm and discuss our pilot program using the Volvo EC230 electric excavator on the LA Metro Purple Line Extension project in Los Angeles. Along with improving conditions for colleagues and neighbors, these electric giants have the potential to scale our net-zero efforts. We're passionate about preserving cultural heritage while bringing iconic spaces into the future. Take Finlandia Hall, a 50-year-old concert and congress hall designed by Alvar Aalto, a national treasure of Finland. In 2022, we partnered with the City of Helsinki to meticulously renovate Finlandia Hall, ensuring it meets modern standards for efficiency and accessibility, all while respecting its rich legacy. The project rejuvenated the interior, significantly improved energy efficiency, and made the building more accessible for everyone. Finlandia Hall is a testament to how thoughtful modernization can breathe new life into historical structures. For communities around Seattle, USA, your commute and your environment are getting an upgrade. Scheduled to open this fall, the L300: Lynnwood Link Extension, delivered jointly by Skanska USA Civil and Skanska USA Building, will connect North Seattle and Lynnwood, taking cars off the road and offering a more efficient travel option. The project also minimized its footprint on the sensitive McAleer Creek wetland using creative construction methods and waterway revitalization, vital to local wild salmon populations. Think large structures like offices and apartment blocks have to be made from reinforced concrete? Think again. Mass timber is now being used for large-scale projects as diverse as public buildings, offices and apartments. In the latest episode of our Shaping Sustainable Places podcast, we speak to Andrew Waugh from Waugh Thistleton Architects and Dean Lewis from Skanska USA about the exciting possibilities of this approach. To learn more about mass timber, listen to our podcast https://lnkd.in/gSBssikE and check out International Mass Timber Conference, the largest gathering of mass timber experts in the world, happening in Portland, Oregon. #ShapingSustainablePlaces #KnowledgeAndForesight #masstimber
