SWEDTURN X HIGHLIGHTS
DEVELOPED TOGETHER WITH THE INDUSTRY
Together with our long-t erm customers in defence and automotive our new SwedTurn X was developed. Keeping the features they found it hard to find at an other machine producer; as our solid bed and adding and developing the machine for todays production.
NEW MACHINE HOUSING
A new simplyfied machine housing with a sleek scandinavian design with focus on easy maintainace, accessibility for the operator and straightforward loading of workpieces both from top and side, with robot or overhead crane.
EASY IMPLEMENT IN PRODUCTION CELLS
The new improved concept for implements in produduction cells is developed together with ABB Robotics and comes with different options due to customers demand.
ERGONOMIC WORKING POSITIONS
With the new step and doors opening from top to bottom the operator can easily get into the machine. This leading to improved acessibility for the operator and straightforward loading of workpieces both from top and side.
RELIABLE, STEADY MACHINE BED
Our well-proven, stable machine construction in casted iron is the foundation for heavy, precision machining. With the new improved SwedTurn concept this is a production machine for the future.
DIGITAL TWIN
With the Siemens Sinumerik ONE the digital twin makes it possible to optimizing the machines production processes. The digital machine twin can support the machine tool user – even if the machine tool is being manually operated.

OUR HISTORY
1856
​
Köping's Mechanical Workshop is founded by Otto Hallström for the manufacture & repair of agricultural machinery, which was soon expanded with machinery & mechanical products that Sweden is in need of for industrialization. The brand name was "KÖPING".
1920
​
The company is acquired by AB Volvo. At Köping's mechanical workshop, Volvo produced gearboxes and rear axles for cars and trucks, as well as the machines that Volvo needed in its own production.
1960
​
In the 1960s, Volvo decided to stop its own production of machine tools. The machine tool manufacturing was sold to the Swedish state and became part of the conglomerate Statsföretag, which was strongly linked to Sweden's defense industry at the time.
1968
The company presents its first numerically controlled lathe and begins the journey towards a high-tech company.
1972

SMT launches its first CNC control, ie. a control system where block preparation, logic and interpolators are implemented in a software running on a microprocessor.
2004
​
After several different owners and mergers, SMT's Swedturn division (Lathes) was sold to the owners of STOREBRO Machine Tools, who are also tool machine manufacturers.
2010
​
SMT Machine moves from Västerås to Köping near where the company was started from the beginning.
2020
SMT Machine gathers together with STOREBRO Machine Tools & SMT Milling Machines under the umbrella Swedish Machine Tool Company AB

Moving HQ and machine factory to Främmestad, 1h north east of Gothenburg
